CABERNET SAUVIGNON      ZINFANDEL      CABERNET FRANC

LOT 1      PETITE SIRAH

Cabernet Sauvignon

2005 TITUS Cabernet Sauvignon - 91 - Enobytes.com
Full bodied and heavily perfumed, this wine impresses as soon as it is poured. Deep purple hue for color and long legs are a great start for this winery; signs of quality in production and finished product will have the folks remembering the Titus name after tasting. If you are a fan of well made Napa Cabernets, chances are you have tasted this winemaker's wines before as he has served as the winemaker for a couple of award winning prestigious wineries going back two decades. Generous to a fault, this wine gives and gives, rewarding the senses with floral and ripe fruit aromas. Made in the classic Bordeaux style, the flavors mingle berry with a hint of deep caramel, chocolate and coffee. The plush finish lingers lush and sexy. MDME (March 2008)

2005 TITUS Cabernet Sauvignon
”While the wine is impressively, close to devastatingly, pure and intense, it's also all about structure now, dominated by the broad framing and deep foundation of polished, spicy oak, chewy, grainy tannins and dark, vibrant acid. The wine is reticent, but not truculent, closed in but not distant. Some might call its condition Olympian detachment waiting for the right moment to unbend in a dignified manner, say from 2010 to 2016 to '18.” - Fredric Koeppel, KoeppelOnWine (December 2007)

2005 TITUS Cabernet Sauvignon - 89, The Wine Advocate (Dec. 2007)
“Dark ruby/purple colored, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a sweet bouquet of crème de cassis and black cherries, soft tannin, and an easy-going, broad mouthfeel. Drink it over the next 8-12 years.”

2004 Titus RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon
"The structure is amazing -- huge, supple, vibrant, inviting -- and the lushness, the spiciness, the pure and bright ripeness of black fruit flavors are unearthly. The wine is notably austere, even aloof from mid-palate back, but it avoids any astringency in favor of brooding intensity. 208 cases. This is for the long-haul, say 2012 to 2018 to '20." - Fredric Koeppel, KoeppelOnWine (December 2007)

2004 Titus RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon - 90, The Wine Advocate (Dec. 2007)
“The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve reveals more toasty new oak, graphite, and spice along with blackberry and cassis scents. Medium-bodied and elegant, with soft tannin and a good finish, it should be drunk over the next decade.”

2004 Titus RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon - 90 - Vintrust’s SOMM SELECTIONS (Winter 2007)
AROMA: sweet oak, dried tobacco, complex berries. FLAVOR: deep red berry, complex, smoky, earth. STRUCTURE: tight, tannic, should open with time. LENGTH: fruit flavors are long and intriguing. BALANCE: in spite of tightness, well balanced. DRINK: 2007-2016.

2004 Titus RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon - 91 - The Wine Spectator (November 15, 2007)
"Taut and tannic, with concentrated dusty berry, cedary oak and firm tannins that are focused, intense and complex, gaining depth and richness on the finish. Best from 2009-2016." J.L.

2004 TITUS Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - 90 - The Wine Advocate (Dec. 2006)
"The dark ruby/purple hued 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits more classic creme de cassis, sweet black cherry and spice notes. Again, elegance seems to be the modus operandi even though this wine is bigger and more tannic than the Cabernet Franc. It cuts a broad swath across the palate with excellent depth, purity and length. It should drink well for a decade or more." - Robert Parker, Jr.

2004 TITUS Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
San Francisco Chronicle
(April 13, 2007) - One of the Best Napa Valley Cabs Under $50
TWO STARS "2004 Titus Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($41) Brothers Eric and Phillip Titus were fortunate that their parents were farsighted in the 1960s, buying up some good Napa Valley vineyards when the grapes planted there included Mondeuse, Burger and Golden Chasselas. Cab's a better use of the land, as evidenced by this concentrated wine with big oak flavors, sweet cherry and hints of toasted wheat." - W. Blake Gray

2004 TITUS Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - Boutique Wine Cellars (December 2006)
“Another fantastic effort from Titus Vineyards, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is tinged purple and offers a beautiful bouquet of blackberry, rhubarb, ground coffee, and sweet crushed pepper. This wine had fantastic length, which was layered with blueberry, ground stone, crushed flowers, licorice, and fig. The wine is drinking quite beautifully now, but could be drunk over the next 3 years.”

2003 TITUS Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - 2007 BRONZE MEDAL WINNER - National Womens Wine Competition, Wines Women Want. Category: Cabernet Sauvignon's Over $30

2003 TITUS Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - 92 - Wine Enthusiast
"Classic Napa Cabernet, rich and sensuous in tannins that are fully approachable now, with ripe black currant and mocha flavors enriched with smoky, spicy oak. The wine is nicely dry. Beautiful now and best in the next few years for its fat, opulently youthful quality." - S.H., (August 2006)

2003 TITUS Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
San Francisco Chronicle
- Outstanding 2003 Napa Valley Cabernet Under $50
“Fine balance and juicy black cherry and cassis fruit make this a winner, with complex chocolate truffle and pencil-lead background notes. Velvety tannins and crisp acidity make for easy sipping.” (April 6, 2006)

TITUS Vineyards 2002 Napa Valley RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon - 91 - Wine Enthusiast
“Richer and more satisfying than Titus’ regular ’02, mainly due to a more intense blackberry, cherry and cocoa fruit and a finer structure. For all the ripeness, the acids and tannins keep the palate stimulated for the next sip. But I don’t think it’s an ager. Drink now."– SH (October, 2005)

TITUS Vineyards 2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – 91 - Wine Spectator Insider
"Generous and ripe, with deep, plush roasted Black cherry, black currant, licorice and chocolate
flavors, giving it a tinge of mocha. Macaroon oak and round tannins slide through a lingering finish.
Drink now through 2007."—J.L. (4-20-05)

TITUS Vineyards 2001 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – 91 - Wine Enthusiast
Shows the classic traits of the appellation and vintage, with well-ripened black currant fruit, elaborate oak, smooth and complex tannins and good acidity. (October 2004)

TITUS Vineyards 2000 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – 88 - Wine Spectator
Ripe and concentrated, with fine depth to blackberry, vanilla and chocolate tones, underscored by generous toasty oak and supple tannins. A hint of wet earth shades the finish. Drink now through 2007. (Oct 15, 2003)

TITUS Vineyards 2000 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – 87 One Puff - Connoisseurs Guide
Led by very direct, ripe cherry smells in its nicely oaked and wholly accessible nose, this trim, smoothly balanced bottling follows in kind with clean, well-fruited flavors that may lack for a bit of range but get the nod for their prettiness, polish and overall amicability. It is tasty now to be sure, but two or three years of keeping should see it in even better form. (August 2003)

TITUS Vineyards 1999 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley – 90 - International Wine Cellar
"Bright red-ruby. Complex nose melds bitter cherry, currant, violet pastille, shiso leaf, pipe tobacco and currant leaf. Rich, sweet and lush in the mouth, with good size and structure. Aromatically complex and not at all heavy. Flavorful finish features sweet, suave tannins and notes of spice and chocolate.: Steven Tanzer (May/June 2002)

TITUS Vineyards 1999 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon –
89 - The Wine Advocate
(84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc) reveals a tighter nose offering loamy soil scents intermixed with cassis, smoke and underbrush. Full-bodied, with sweet tannin, low acidity and excellent extract as well as ripeness, it is more elegant than the Lot 1, but has less character and personality. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. (June 2002)

TITUS Vineyards 1999 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon –
87 - Wine & Spirits
Fat scents of licorice up front close in on a plum skin bitterness that leaves the finish dry and austere. There’s fresh juice underneath, buried in the silver mine of tannin, just needing time to meld and open. This is grown at the Titus family estate, north of St. Helena.” (June 2002)

TITUS Vineyards 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – 90 - The Wine Advocate
(1,575 cases of an82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 4% Petit-Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Merlot blend) possesses a more conservative aroma and flavor profile. The color is a less saturated ruby/purple. The aromas consist of smoke, blackberries, blueberries, and subtle wood. In the mouth, it displays admirable expansiveness, richness, and flavor, but more tannin and delineation. Full-bodied, beautifully pure, and impressively rich, with melted tannin and sufficient acidity. It will benefit from another year of cellar age, and last for 15 years. If winemaker Phil Titus and vineyard manager Eric Titus continue to produce wines such as these, they will quickly become two of the most fashionable new names in California winedom.” Robert Parker, Jr. (December 2000)

Zinfandel

2005 TITUS Zinfandel – SILVER MEDAL, Best of Appellation - Appellation America (May 2008)

The best wines are defined by place, and the character of each appellation is defined by its best wines. The Best-of-Appellation evaluation program is an on-going process of identifying the wines in each appellation which best express the character of the appellation and the quality of wine craftsmanship in the region. Appellation America salutes these producers, not only for their individual achievement, but for their contribution to building the identity and reputation of fine winegrowing appellations, such as St. Helena.

TITUS 2005 Zinfandel
"Here's a robust, even exuberant zinfandel, aged completely in American oak, that manages to be beautifully balanced and integrated. The bouquet features blackberry and black currant, briers and brambles with a whiff of crushed black pepper and a touch of syrah-like wet dog. In the mouth, it's warm, ripe and roasted, building layers of smoke, lavender and licorice as the core for delicious black fruit flavors woven with vanilla, dried spice and some of the austerity of American oak. Delicious now with big red meat dishes, or just a grilled ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce, or drink from 2008 through 2011 or '12." - Fredric Koeppel, KoeppelOnWine (December 2007)

TITUS 2000 Old Vine Zinfandel, Mendocino County - Silver Medal 2002 Titus Mendocino County Fair
“You'd have to spend $100 for a major Bordeaux to do better than this California Bordeaux-style blend. The Titus estate, just north of St. Helena on the Silverado Trail, is run by brothers Eric and Phillip Titus, who split caring for the vineyard and the winemaking. The winemaking is as graceful as it gets. This wine has a little Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc in the blend. It has a wonderful balance, bright luscious fruit and just a light touch of oak. The tannins are supple enough that you can drink this now or keep it around for a special occasion.”

TITUS 2001 Napa Valley Zinfandel – 92 -
Wine & Spirits
Deep in color, rich and pliant in texture, this is pure Napa in its sunny earthiness. The wine grows at the Titus family vineyard, in well drained, alluvial soils on the valley floor, just north of St. Helena on the Silverado Trail. It gains its stature from mature vines (25 years old), building tannins that lift the fruit upward rather than weighing it down. And once lifted, the flavor exposition continues to develop from first to last taste. A fulsome, sophisticated wine for carnitas; or age it eight years from the vintage for a Thanksgiving feast. (October 2004)

TITUS 2001 Napa Valley Zinfandel – 92, 2 puffs - Connoisseurs Guide
Here is an exciting reminder that depth, richness and intensity in Zinfandel need not necessarily come at the cost of disqualifying heat, and its strong and insistent fruit never lets go of absolute control. Rich and well-placed oak brings extra dimension to its incisive themes of optimally ripened blackberries, and its fleshy, slightly supple texture is balanced with fine acidity and a careful bit of tannin. Bound to tempt immediate drinking, it is built for keeping and could improve for years. (May 2004)

TITUS 2000 Old Vine Zinfandel Mendocino County – 90 - Wine Enthusiast
Plush and intensely flavored, with deep-edged black cherry, blackberry, tar, cedar, vanilla, anise and herb notes. It’s smooth textured and long on the finish. Delicious. (September 2003)

TITUS 2000 Zinfandel Napa Valley – 88 - Wine Enthusiast
Firm, focused and well structured, it offers a solid core of black cherry, plum, anise and spice flavors with an herbal touch for added interest. Smooth on the palate. (September 2003)

1999 Titus Napa Valley Zinfandel 90 - The Wine Advocate
“To date I have enjoyed everything that has emerged from this high quality producer. The 1999 Titus Vineyards Napa Zinfandel displays Châteauneuf du Pape-like aromas of saddle leather, roasted meats, pepper, earth, black raspberries, and kirsch liqueur. Ripe, full-bodied and supple-textured, it provides a big, lusty mouthful of Zinfandel to drink over the next 3-4 years…"  Robert Parker, Jr (November 2001)

TITUS 1999 Old Vine Mendocino County Zinfandel 91 - The Wine Advocate
"...the deep, ruby/purple-colored 1999 Titus Vineyards Mendocino Old Vines Zinfandel is a pure, harmonious, full-bodied, exuberant offering bursting with black fruits, infused with mineral and oak characteristics. Dense, chewy and unctuously-textured this succulent, fat Zinfandel needs to be consumed over the next 4-5 years.” Robert Parker, Jr (November 2001)

TITUS 1999 Napa Valley and Mendocino County Old VineZinfandel - Napa Valley Register
“Titus Vineyards served up…exceptional bottlings. The 1999 Napa Valley Zinfandel offers a varietal perfume with oodles of classic cherry and blueberry flavors on the palate. A small amount of petite sirah in the blend provides the peppery notes…only 250 cases of the ’99 Titus Vineyards Mendocino Redwood Valley Old Vines Zinfandel. This is an intense wine with lots of extract, an aggressive offering with plenty of spice. This is a big personality.” L. Pierce Carson (Feb 1, 2001)

Cabernet Franc

2005 TITUS Cabernet Franc - GOLD MEDAL - Best of Appellation from Appellation America
(May 2008)
The best wines are defined by place, and the character of each appellation is defined by its best wines. Helena.

2005 TITUS Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
"Here's an amazing conjunction of soft appealing ripeness and a relentless tannic and oaken structure. The elements are classic, as in the red cabernet franc wines of the central Loire Valley: spiced and macerated red and black currants and blueberries; cedar and cigar box; granite and gravel; forest and underbrush; violets and lavender; dusty plums. The oak is perfumed, almost exotic and ecclesiastical, like incense in an ancient church where the wood altar is polished every day, while the finish is long, demanding and austere. 561 cases. Best from 2009 or '10 through 2015 or '17." - Fredric Koeppel, KoeppelOnWine (December 2007)

2005 TITUS Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Franc - 90 - Vintrust’s SOMM SELECTIONS (Winter 2007)
AROMA: very spicy, black pepper and curry. FLAVOR: smoke, black tea, cocoa. STRUCTURE: velvety and rich with a cleansing acidity. LENGTH: soft and even, with finish of mild tannin. BALANCE: very complex, should balance with age. DRINK: 2007-2016.

2005 TITUS Cabernet Franc - 88 - The Wine Advocate
“The attractive, dark ruby/purple-tinged 2005 Cabernet Franc offers elegant blue and red fruit-dominated aromatics with notions of spice, graphite, and earth in the background. Medium-bodied and stylish, it is best consumed over the next 4-5 years.” Robert Parker, Jr. (Dec. 2007)

2004 TITUS Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Franc - 90 - The Wine Advocate
“The 2004 Cabernet Franc reveals a fragrant perfume of wood spice, blue and red fruits (raspberries and blueberries), medium to full body, beautiful purity, and ethereal elegance as well as finesse. It is an impressive red built on nuance and subtlety. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.” Robert Parker, Jr. (Dec. 2006)

2002 TITUS Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Franc - 89 - The Wine Advocate
“The deep ruby-hued 2002 Cabernet Franc exhibits a pronounced nose of blue and black fruits, background spice, loamy soil, and flowers. Medium-bodied and elegant, with some dusty tannin, it is a stylish, graceful red to enjoy over the next 5-7 years.” Robert Parker, Jr. (Feb 28, 2005)

1999 TITUS Napa Valley Cabernet Franc - 93 - Wine & Spirits
“At it’s best, Napa Valley cabernet franc ripens to a velvety texture, carrying significant extract with elegance and ease. Titus 1999 Cabernet Franc (93 points) achieves that here in a sort of succulent austerity, full yet firm, jamming with red currant flavor, deliciously juicy while holding to a smooth sophistication. It will age, but it’s also a treat to drink now”. (December 2001)

1999 TITUS Cabernet Franc Napa Valley – 90 - International Wine Cellar
Bright red-ruby. Aromas of cassis, bitter cherry, rose petal, licorice and fresh herbs, along with a light resiny nuance. Large-scales, chewy and rich, but quite dry and not at all heavy, with pepper, licorice and spice notes. A mouthfilling, solidly structured wine in a rather grown-up style. Finishes with good focus and spicy persistence, along with a note of incense.” Steven Tanzer (May/June 2002)

1999 TITUS Cabernet Franc - 91- The Wine Advocate
“This winery is doing splendid work as evidenced by the classy, concentrated 1999 Cabernet Franc. Its healthy saturated ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, cranberry liqueur, and spicy oak. Rich, medium to full-bodied, elegant, and flavorful, this is a tour de force for California Cabernet Franc. It displays the weightless character Cabernet Franc can achieve along with exceptional flavor intensity. Bravo! Drink it over the next 10-12 years."  Robert Parker, Jr (June 2002)

LOT 1

TITUS 2003 LOT 1 - 92 - The Wine Advocate
“Revealing the most saturated ruby/purple color, the Titus 2003 Lot 1 offers attractive aromas of graphite, scorched earth, blackberries, and cassis. Full bodied with nicely harnessed power, elegance, & purity. This beauty should evolve and expand over the next 2-4 years. It will keep for 12-15 years.” Robert Parker, Jr. (December 2006)

TITUS 2002 LOT 1 - Boutique Wine Cellars
“This interesting and wonderful blend of 48% Petit Verdot, 42% Petite Syrah, and 10% Zinfandel carries a dark inky garnet in the glass, which explodes out of the glass with dried rose, spice box, cranberry, black cracked pepper, and warm oak. On the tongue, the wine is huge with firm tannins, red pepper flakes, dried vanilla, hint of tobacco, and a touch of wonderful acidity (Meyer lemon perhaps). The fantastic tannins and perfect balance really help to show off the warmth and depth of this fantastic wine.” (December 2006)

TITUS 2001 LOT 1 - 90 - The Wine Advocate
“The 2001 Lot 1 possesses a saturated ruby/purple color along with additional crème de cassis and licorice characteristics as well as a more brooding personality. It cuts a deeper, broader feel across the palate, but the tannin is sweet, nicely integrated, and pleasant. Consume it over the next 7-8 years.” Robert Parker, Jr. (Feb 28, 2005)

TITUS 1999 LOT 1 – 90 - The Wine Advocate
(A blend of 67% Petite Sirah, 28% Petit Verdot, and 5% Zinfandel) Exhibits a saturated blue/purple color along with enticing notes of creme de cassis, blackberries, smoke and graphite. Full-bodied, rich, layered, and dense, with high but sweet tannin, this impressive 1999 should age nicely for 8-9 years." Robert Parker, Jr. (June 2002)

TITUS 1999 LOT 1 - 89 - The Wine Spectator
“Dark, mysterious and powerful, this is an inky, teeth-staining mouthful of smoky, spicy, mocha-scented oak and reduced flavors of blueberries and currants, with a long, chewy, tannic aftertaste. A blend of Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Zinfandel. Drink now through 2009. 80 cases made. (JL) Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 1999 – 85 points: Ripe and complex, though the wood plays a vital role in this wine. It offers depth, with dill, blackberry, earth, plum and plenty of cedar flavors, finishing with firm chewy tannins. Drink now through 2007. 1,250 cases made”. J.L. (2002)

TITUS 1997 LOT 1 - 93 - The Wine Advocate
“There are only 160 cases of the stunning 1997 Red Table Wine Lot 1 (a surprising blend of 65% Petite Sirah, 30% Petit-Verdot, and 5% Zinfandel). It boasts a healthy black/purple color as well as aromas of licorice, blueberries, blackberries, minerals, and subtle oak. It offers explosive ripeness in the rich, beautifully integrated, silky tannin, adequate acidity, stunning richness, and an impressive finish. It saturates the palate, yet has no hard edges. Anticipated maturity: now-2015. Very impressive!” Robert Parker, Jr. (Dec 2000)

Petite Sirah

2004 TITUS Vineyards Petite Sirah - 91+ - The Wine Advocate
"Produced from one of California's most underrated varietals the 2004 Petite Sirah boasts plenty of blackberry, smoke, licorice, and incense aromas, beautiful flavors of blueberries, vanilla, violets and other assorted flowers, and plenty of silky tannin. Still unevolved and primary, but beautifully made, it should be at its finest between 2009-2020." Robert Parker, Jr. (Dec. 2006)

2004 TITUS Vineyards Petite Sirah – 94 - St Helena Star
“The 2004 Titus Vineyards Petite Sirah, of which only 350 cases were made, was clearly one of the crowd favorites. At $35, this could have been the best value at the tasting.” Doug Ernst (March 1, 2007 - Review of Appellation St. Helena Trade Tasting)

2004 TITUS Vineyards Petite Sirah – 90, One Puff - Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine
“As this very well-made wine so capably attests, it is possible for Petite Sirah to be both fruity and true to its varietal heritage. It is not so much “brawny” as it is weighty and nicely filled, and its proper suggestions of pepper and earth are underlain by a deep sense of optimally ripened blackberries. It leans to ripeness and dries a touch at the finish with moderate tannins providing a bit of varietal grip.” (May 2007)

1999 TITUS Vineyards 1999 Petite Sirah Mendocino County - 88+ - The Wine Advocate
"The opaque purple-colored, monolithic, rich, extracted 1999 Petite Sirah possesses low acidity, sweet tannin, and a boatload of black fruits. If it develops complexity, it will be outstanding. It has the potential to age for 15+ years.” Robert Parker, Jr. (June 2002)

1999 TITUS Vineyards 1999 Petite Sirah Mendocino County – 86 – The Wine Spectator
Doesn’t belong in the drawing room, but flavorful. Dense and chewy, with plenty of tannic grip to cedary oak, blackberry, earth, black pepper and plum flavors. Drink now through 2007. 120 cases made. (June 30, 2002)
